FlyerTrail is my first attempt and building and launching a web and mobile app. It solves the problem of finding and sharing the best deals near you.

FlyerTrail provides a platform for you to easily browse and find deals filtered by stores, location, and or categories that you are interested in.

I’m teaching myself Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, and Javascript as I continue to build the web app.

After joining Matygo during GrowLab’s Winter 2011, I worked with the CEO to validate, develop, and launch their online education marketplace.

Starting with customer development, we drafted the initial business model canvas and created a list of assumptions that needed to be disproven. Through over 30 interviews with teachers and students from BCIT, UBC, and SFU, we developed our core value proposition.

From there, using Unbounce, Adobe Muse, and Balsamiq, the first wireframes and landing pages were created. Using analytics, we were able to test and iterate towards more effective course offerings, course prices, and marketing channels. 4 weeks after launching the product, we filled our first pilot semester with 40 paying students.

Prior to their launch on the iTunes App Store and any significant amount of content and users, Placeling had a huge challenge - how could they get their initial users to like and find use for their app?

I was tasked with figuring out who these initial users were, what content they liked, and what their use-cases would be. Through competitive research, I figured out the demographics and usage behaviours of the major users for similar apps. From their, I crafted 7 user personas and storyboards with detail of their personality characteristics and typical use cases.

I carried through and developed over 120 pieces of original content that were varied in writing style and topics so that it would resonate with the different user personas.

[...]

Along with a team of 9 at Startup Weekend Vancouver 2011, we built and launched Qutie App over 54 hours.

Qutie is the Tamagotchi brought into the 21st century for your iPhone. We decided to make this fun app and try to integrate different gaming mechanics to see if it could actually also solve a real business problem. On top of being able to play with, feed, and nurture your Qutie, you could also interact with the real world and digital advertising (QR codes) to earn points and new items.

Working with a small team of 2 developers and 2 designers, we had to quickly determine the minimum viable product and design requirements so that we could have a working product by the end of the event. I started off leading a brainstorm session to figure out the basic features required to 1) have an engaging gaming element 2) ability to integrate and work with QR codes to test business model. After developing the design and development requirements and timeline, I left it up to the team.

I spent the remainder of the time setting up our initial marketing with a landing page, social media channels, and doing some good old guerrilla marketing. With Balsamiq and Adobe Photoshop, I created mockups of the final product and walked around to share it with the other attendees to collect beta test emails and product feedback.

ICE Promotions was my first experience running a company. I was going to school full-time at BCIT for Marketing Management and decided that I needed some real-world experience to compliment it. ICE Promotions was a subsidiary of SIFE BCIT, where we provided guerrilla marketing and event planning services.

I was in charge of making sales, growing accounts, and managing event operations. Working with clients like the BCIT Student Employment Services, BBA Program, and Clubzone, our company made over $35,000 in revenues.

Working in a team of 7 as part of the social media arm of DDB Vancouver, we executed the largest social media strategy and campaign for the Canadian Tourism Commission. Overarching into the US, UK, and Australia, the project targeted tourists and travelling professionals to select Canada as their destination.

I was tasked with developing an analytics strategy with details to which platforms and measurements to use to track success. To help the Canadian Tourism Commission better leverage social media, I developed a social media curriculum providing SVPs with an overview of the platforms, how-to’s, and best practices.
